With female drivers making up just 11% of their workforce, two sisters at Stagecoach West are taking a step forward in representing women in the transport industry.
Driving Instructor, Senga Wellbelove, is keeping driving in the family by training her sister to become a bus driver.
Helen shared her experiences of working in the transport industry so far: “I think a lot of women lack the confidence but I would recommend giving driving a try.
I love getting to meet new people and be part of the local community. You tend to get the driving bug and you can’t wait to get back behind the wheel.”
Helen is expected to gain her PCV driving licence qualification in the coming weeks, whilst she is currently thriving in her modular examinations.
The operator is striving to achieve a gender balance by encouraging more women to apply for driver roles.
Stagecoach West are currently recruiting in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Stroud. They’re also hiring drivers for their brand new depot, opening in North Bristol in September.
