Van Hool has appointed Marc Zwaaneveld (pictured, left) as Co-Chief Executive Officer. He will work alongside existing CEO Filip Van Hool (pictured, right).
Mr Zwaaneveld will focus largely on “accelerating and intensifying” the Belgian business’s recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and other headwinds, while Mr Van Hool will devote more time to managing day-to-day business activities. Mr Zwaaneveld “will stay on until the recovery plan is sufficiently secured,” the manufacturer says.
It adds that the pandemic had a significant impact on demand for products in markets served by Van Hool, with the coach sector hit particularly hard. Supply chain disruption and inflationary pressures are also cited as having affected the Belgian OEM’s financial results.
“The good news is that there is an initial recovery of volumes and order book,” Van Hool continues. “It is essential to accelerate and intensify this process of recovery.”
The first examples of its T range of coaches for UK buyers are to be delivered this year after unveiling of the new model by Van Hool in late 2022.
Mr Zwaaneveld has significant experience of managing companies “that could use an extra boost,” the Belgian group says.
His LinkedIn profile shows a career that began with DAF Trucks before becoming involved in the business advisory area, investments, and interim management. That has seen him work with companies in sectors including waste management and food.
Local reports also indicate that Mr Zwaaneveld is active in non-profit social benefit work.
