Daniel Tanner (pictured, above) has been named Service Market Director by Volvo Bus UK and Ireland. He succeeds Andy Kunze (pictured, below), who has moved into retirement but will continue to work with the business on a one day per week basis.

Mr Kunze has been with Volvo since 1988, when Volvo Buses bought the Leyland Bus operations. Prior to that, he began his career in 1978 with Leyland Motors as an apprentice. Over the past 36 years he has spent time with both Volvo Buses and Volvo Trucks.

Mr Tanner describes Mr Kunze as “a role model for me and so many in our team,” and notes that his retirement “leaves big shoes to fill.” Mr Tanner brings 17 years’ experience within the Volvo Group, of which eight have been spent in coach and bus.

Like Mr Kunze, Mr Tanner began his career as an apprentice technician, and has since worked in various positions within Volvo. Promotion sees him lead the team responsible for Volvo Buses’ customer support standards, and overseeing the dealer network for coach and bus customers in the UK and Ireland.

Speaking about his appointment, Mr Tanner says: “This is a fantastic role to be taking on, and I am excited to have this opportunity to continue driving the business forwards.

“It is a position that is very much people- and relationship-orientated, and that is part of the attraction for me. I look forward to seeing it develop further, particularly during such a transformative time for the coach and bus industry as we embrace more sustainable transport options.”

Mr Kunze describes Mr Tanner as “a superb engineer” and notes that he has “a first-class technical background and proven commercial experience.”

Looking back at his 46-year career, Mr Kunze adds: “I have enjoyed every minute of it, and I have learned something new every day. It has given me the opportunity to work alongside some fantastic people at Volvo Group, Volvo Buses, within the Volvo dealer network, and at our customers. I am very grateful to all of them for the experiences we have shared.”

Mr Kunze will continue his involvement with Volvo Bus UK and Ireland by working closely with Managing Director Domenico Bondi, to whom Mr Tanner now reports.
