The government is to consult on whether green-backed numberplates should be introduced for zero-emission (ZE) vehicles. They are already used in Norway, Canada and China and could help to encourage the take-up of ZE vehicles
As well as promoting ZE vehicles, green ‘plates could help support local incentives such as access to bus or low emission vehicle lanes, electric charging bays or ultra-low-emission-zones.
