Australian data specialist Intermoda has secured its first contract in the UK, signing a five-year agreement with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) to support the rollout of its franchised bus network.
The supplier will provide LCRCA with its Bus Franchise Contract Management System and Performance Payment Calculator, forming part of the combined authority’s shift to a fully franchised model in which it will take responsibility for setting routes, fares and timetables across the city region by the end of 2027.
Intermoda says the contract marks a milestone in its international expansion and highlights increasing demand for data-led tools to manage transport networks. Its platform will support contract management, performance monitoring and improvement of services as franchising is implemented.
Simon Finnie, Head of Network Performance at Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, comments: “The Combined Authority has appointed Intermoda to provide data and performance insights for the Liverpool City Region bus network. This represents a key step forward as we progress towards franchising. We will work with Intermoda to ensure that the data gathered will help deliver the transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement required for the network.
John Langford-Ely, CEO of Intermoda, adds: “This is a significant milestone for Intermoda as we enter the UK market. Our success reflects the depth of experience we’ve built over two decades supporting franchised bus systems in Australia and New Zealand. We’re excited to partner with LCRCA as it implements its vision for bus franchising, and to help fast-track the delivery of its benefits through robust, data-driven contract management.”
Intermoda brings experience from more than two decades working with franchised and contracted bus systems in Australia and New Zealand, where its technology has been used to create a “shared, trusted view of performance” between authorities and operators. This it says has contributed to improved on-time running, stronger relationships, better value, and enhanced service delivery.
