ITSO Transit Hub has launched new smart ticketing for passengers by bringing national smartcard ITSO to mobile phones through Google Pay.
The ITSO on Mobile product enables passengers to buy, fulfil and use an ITSO-compatible ticket on their mobile phones.
Integrating with transport retail mobile applications and websites, it securely delivers purchased tickets directly to the Google Pay digital wallet on the user’s phone.
ITSO Transit Hub’s cloud-based fulfilment service, which is integrated with the operator’s back office system and with Google Pay, delivers the secure ticket. Ticket validator machines or gates instantly recognise the ticket on the handset as it emulates a standard ITSO smartcard.
Transport for West Midlands, part of the West Midlands Combined Authority, has rolled out the new technology, initially on the West Midlands Metro tram network as a pilot for up to 500 users prior to a wider rollout to include buses and trains.
“People want to buy travel in the same way that they buy other goods and services. Working with Google Pay has enabled us to do just that,” says Steve Wakeland, CEO of ITSO and ITSO Transit Hub.
Passengers can download the Google Pay app from the Play Store.
