Vehicle inspection and maintenance equipment specialist Ryme has introduced a mobile brake tester, the FRU-Mobile, to its product range.

Depending on the model, the unit can test up to 26 tonnes per axle. That makes it suited to PSVs and HGVs in commercial workshops and vehicle maintenance units along with heavier equipment such as road-going cranes.

The supplier says that a mobile brake tester is particularly beneficial to operators and maintenance providers that do not own their premises and are unable to carry out the excavation required for a fixed unit.

In addition, the approach suits applications where water table issues make installation of fixed brake testers difficult, or where short-term maintenance contracts require equipment that can be moved. Limitations on workshop or yard space are a further influence, it says.

With the mobile brake tester offered by Ryme, the unit can be packed away when it is not in use or be transported between multiple sites as required.

“When it comes to mobile brake testing, the biggest challenge has always been finding the right balance between build quality and manoeuvrability, and that is exactly what we set out to achieve,” the supplier continues.

Traffic Commissioners have repeatedly highlighted the requirement for proper brake testing of heavy vehicles at periodic inspection, with the importance of correctly interpreting the reports that process creates also stressed.
