Discover Newmarket has confirmed its 2017 dates for a host of tours designed to give visitors a behind the scenes look at the world of Thoroughbred breeding, racing and training.
The tours give groups the exclusive opportunity to meet the organisations, trainers and the staff behind champion racehorses, as well as seeing the equine stars at work.
The National Stud Tours are back this year, allowing groups to experience the only commercial stud farm open to the public in the UK, but new tours have been launched this year, including the History and Heritage Tour and the The Munnings Tour.
The History and Heritage Tour lets visitors see the background of Newmarket, from the time of King James I to the present day, and see sights such as the Jockey Club Rooms, All Saints Church, Tattersalls and the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art at Palace House.
Visitors on the Munnings Tour will experience the art of the region, starting with a visit to the Munnings Art Museum in Dedham for a guided tour and lunch. Groups will then travel back to Newmarket to experience the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art.
Now incorporated in a number of tours, the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art was officially opened in November last year.
The National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art provides three attractions in one: The National Horse Racing Museum, the Fred Packard Museum and Galleries of British Sporting Art, and the Rothschild Yard where racehorses are retrained.
There is coach parking to the rear of the centre and a meet and greet service and a guided tour can be arranged for groups.
Along with the new tours for this year, there are a number of half days and full day tours hosted year round that take groups to rarely seen top trainers’ yards.
Bespoke tours can also be arranged, as well as accommodation on request.
