National Lottery and Strictly Come Dancing ‘voice of god’ Alan Dedicoat has become a Patron of the Transport Museum Wythall charity.

Mr Dedicoat was born in Hollywood, the next village to Wythall. He has a personal interest in buses, having joined his friend and fellow radio presenter Ken Bruce and three others in purchasing and running six AEC Routemasters to the benefit of many charities.

In his childhood years Mr Dedicoat was a regular traveller on Midland Red bus services through his home being outside the Birmingham City boundary. He was educated at King Edward VI Camp Hill school and Birmingham University.

His previous involvement with Transport Museum Wythall included being guest of honour at the attraction’s Midland Red 120 event in 2024, when a special Hollywood circular service was created for which Mr Dedicoat acted as what the Museum says was “a very competent conductor.”

He has spent most of his working life in radio, famously sharing banter with the late Sir Terry Wogan on his ‘Wake up to Wogan’ morning show, acquiring the nickname Deadly in the process.

Mr Dedicoat is best known for his ‘voice of god’ presence on Strictly Come Dancing and in announcing National Lottery numbers. He still puts that skill to use at a variety of events, both with live appearances and via recordings done in a home studio.

“We look forward to working with Alan and his voice to further raise the profile of Transport Museum Wythall as one of Britain’s premier transport-related family attractions,” a spokesperson for the charity says.
