Volvo Bus bodybuilder partner, Sunsundegui, has outlined a “significant” €5.5m investment plan to increase productivity and enhance quality at its Alsasua headquarters in Spain.

The plans – including site expansion, significant refurbishment of existing buildings and new commercial configurator software – will ensure a modern plant and operation, illustrating the company’s commitment to the UK market, says Volvo Bus.

It supplies the compact SC5, a mid-range SC7 and larger 72-seat SB3 (pictured). Sunsundegui says its total 2017 production will hit 450 coaches and it forecasts 600 coaches for 2018.

Volvo Bus Retail Sales Director James Hyde says: “We have been working with Sunsundegui in the UK since 2003 supplying more than 500 vehicles into the market and our relationship continues to go from strength to strength, so we welcome this major investment news.

“Sunsundegui has a formidable reputation as a traditional coach body builder and its innovative and flexible approach allows us to offer their products to many segments in our market, while meeting the needs of a wide range of operators in the UK and Ireland.
