Otokar wins Turkey’s biggest export deal

Turkey-based Otokar has won the country’s biggest-ever single export deal, with €98.3m a contract to supply 400 buses over the next two years to Bucharest, Romania’s capital.

The order for 400 buses includes some of Otokar’s 18m Kent artic

Otokar employs 2,300 people and makes its first deliveries to Bucharest this summer. The order is for a mix of buses from 10m to 18m artics.

In 2017, Otokar’s total vehicle parc rose to 2,500 in key target export markets, namely France, Italy and Spain, and 500 in the Balkans. The 18-metre Kent Articulated bus was exported to Italy, Serbia and Spain in 2017 as a first.

Otokar also continues to work on alternative- fuelled buses, and has already designed Turkey’s first hybrid bus and first electric bus.
