A move away from ‘legacy’ analogue CCTV towards real-time IP video solutions will enable operators to effectively monitor and deter threats to safety on their vehicles and premises, says Axis Communications, a leader in network video and audio technology.
More than 85% of transport operators across Western Europe are planning to install IP cameras in the near future, according to a recent survey carried out by Axis in partnership with UITP.
The UK, however, has struggled to keep pace with developments in such technologies. Other priorities, funding difficulties or no clear business case are all cited as barriers to IP technology.
Around 75% of those who responded that no clear business case exists rely on what Axis describes as “outdated analogue technology” to meet their surveillance needs.
Says Business Development Manager, Transportation, Lucas Young: “The perceived lack of a business case highlights that many operators are unaware of the security and efficiency benefits that real-time video surveillance can offer.
“To respond to security events as and when they happen a proactive approach is required, and that is not possible with legacy CCTV equipment.”
