Temporary changes to coach parking in Newbury

Work on the construction of a new bus station at the Wharf in Newbury has started and will take approximately six months to complete.

The existing bus station on Market Street will remain operational during this time, however there will be no facilities for excursion coaches available at the Wharf.

Once the new facility at the Wharf is complete, in addition to boarding and alighting provision for local bus, scheduled national and coaches, it will also incorporate layover facilities, including a limited number of coaches.

In the meantime, drop-off, pick-up and layover facilities are available for coaches at the Market Street bus station. Coach drivers can use either Bay B or H at the bus station to briefly drop-off and pick-up passengers, and there are spaces 6, 7 or 8 at the rear of the site for driver breaks of up to 45 minutes.

Additional coach layover spaces will be available at Newbury Rugby Club on Monks Lane.

In order to help with forward planning, may I encourage operators to contact the council’s Transport Services team by emailing transport@westberks.gov.uk or by phone 01635 503248.

Peter Walker,
Transport Services Manager,
West Berskshire Council
