Lothian Buses is welcoming eight new apprentices onto its on-the-job engineer training programme.
The trainees will join teams across Lothian for three to four years of both classroom-based learning and hands-on experience provided by GTG Training at a purpose-built centre in Newbridge.
The programme will lead to an SCQF Level 7 qualification in Heavy Goods and Public Service Vehicle Maintenance and Repair for successful apprentices.
Dylan Dastey, Engineering Director for Lothian, says: “We’re delighted to welcome eight new apprentice engineers to Lothian.
“Apprenticeships are a vital part of our long-term commitment to developing skills and creating home-grown opportunities within the engineering sector.
“By combining classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience in our garages, we’re ensuring our apprentices are equipped with the knowledge and expertise needed to maintain and future-proof our fleet to the highest possible standards.
“They represent the next generation of engineering talent and we’re proud to support them on their journey.”
Lothian says its programme has successfully trained more than 130 engineers so far, with many progressing to develop careers in the business.
It is open to applicants of all ages who are interested in a career in the industry. The operator adds that it covers all aspects required, including vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, removal, replacement and overhauling of major components, and electrical fault diagnostics.
