Public transport data intelligence and operational performance provider Intermoda has entered the UK market after it was added to the Crown Commercial Services Transport Technology Framework.
The Queensland-headquartered supplier gained that accreditation in late 2025. It gives transport authorities and operators here what Intermoda says is streamlined access to its integrated platform as the UK continues its adoption of franchised bus networks.
Intermoda has over 20 years’ experience of supporting mature, performance-driven franchised bus markets in Australia and more recently in New Zealand. Such territories are widely regarded as global benchmarks for franchising design, governance and delivery, the supplier says.
CEO John Langford-Ely (pictured) notes how bus network evolution in the UK “is at a pivotal point” and that Intermoda is focused on helping authorities and operators here to “establish strong data foundations early, reduce risk, and realise the full benefits of franchising over the life of the contract.”
The Intermoda platform is built around what the business says is the bus industry’s most accurate data foundation and a principle that franchising succeeds or fails on data quality.
To that end, Intermoda fuses, validates and reconciles multiple operational data sources to create what it describes as “a trusted, evidence-ready view of network performance.”
Such an approach underpins transparent contractor management, fair performance assessment, and constructive authority-operator relationships, it adds. Experience in mature franchised markets in other territories has shown the business that:
-
- Accurate and trusted data reduces disputes and the administrative burden
- Providing accurate data in tenders attracts stronger, more competitive and lower-risk bids
- Authorities and operators make better decisions when working from a shared version of the truth.
Extensive use of data by Intermoda supports authorities and operators across the full franchising lifecycle, it continues. In the pre-tender phase, the platform assists in the preparation of accurate network baselines, realistic run times, and well-defined KPIs, enabling clearer tender documentation, reduced bidder risk, and better value for money.
During mobilisation and rollout, the system automates contract reporting, performance monitoring, and compliance. That gives fast and trusted insights to support smooth onboarding, evidence-based discussions, and consistent performance management.
Once services are established, Intermoda then enables continuous improvement through advanced tools for contract automation, timetable optimisation, network planning and performance evaluation. That helps authorities and operators to mature their franchised networks over time.
The supplier says its development model ensures that enhancements delivered for any customer are rollout out across the entire platform, driving continuous improvement and leading global best practice. New capabilities are scheduled for 2026 and beyond, it notes.
Adds Mr Langford-Ely: “Franchising is more than a structural change – it is an opportunity to build better networks. Our role is to help UK authorities and operators to move forward with confidence, supported by data they can trust.”
