Improvements for coaches made, with six further drop-off locations added to trial

Phase two of the trial that allows coach passengers to be set down and picked up at specific locations on Transport for London’s Road Network (TLRN), commonly known as Red Routes, has been launched.

Six further drop-off locations in London have been added to Red Routes trial

It follows the successful trial at five locations earlier this year.

For this tranche, specific locations along Albany Street, Albert Embankment, Brompton Road, Cromwell Road, Tower Bridge Road and Vauxhall Bridge Road are involved at times when traffic flows allow.

The arrangements allow coaches to set down and pick up passengers within a 10-minute period at the specified points. Any use of these facilities outside the given window and/or for any other purpose will result in a PCN being issued. Any regular infringement could result in the withdrawal of one or all of these facilities.

This latest phase follows co-operation between the London Tourist Coach Operators Association (LTCOA) and the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) with Transport for London (TfL).

As with the first phase – which remains in operation – the arrangements will be specifically trialled with members of the LTCOA and CPT.

Andy Warrender, Coach Executive of the CPT, says: “Following the successful first phase of the recent [red route] trial, CPT welcomes the announcement that it is to be expanded across a further six locations in central London.

“CPT firmly believes that this success will provide a platform on which to build, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with the LTCOA and TfL in order to realise our ambitions for coaches in London.”

The exact locations included in phase two of the Red Route trial are:

  • Albany Street – Melia White House Hotel, NW1 3UP
  • Albert Embankment – Park Plaza London Riverbank, SE1 7TJ
  • Brompton Road – Harrods, SW1X 7XL
  • Cromwell Road – Holiday Inn London Kensington Forum, SW7 4DN
  • Tower Bridge Road, Grange Primary School, SE1 4TP
  • Vauxhall Bridge Road – Apollo Theatre, 17 Wilton Road, Pimlico, London SW1V 1LG

The locations in phase one of the trial are:

  • Addington Street – Park Plaza County Hall, SE1 7RY
  • Cromwell Road – National History Museum and Science Museum, SW7 5BD
  • Lower Thames Street – Old Billingsgate EC3R 6DX
  • Prescott Street, Grange Tower Bridge Hotel, E1 8GP
  • Southwark Street – Borough Market, SE1 1TL
