Llantrisant-based Edwards Coaches has become the first private PCV operator in Wales to be awarded a platinum rating within the Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS).
Platinum is the highest award on the programme, which is delivered in association with the Institute of Road Transport Engineers Workshop Accreditation Scheme.
Implemented in 2025, the scheme recognises excellence in workshop maintenance, engineering standards, safety, compliance, and operational performance.
The recognition provides passengers and external companies with confidence that the highest standards in safety and engineering are being met, says Edwards Coaches.
The award followed an independent assessment which measured a range of criteria, including staff competence, maintenance procedures, quality systems, workshop facilities, and adherence to the latest industry guidance, such as the Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.
It takes into account technical expertise, maintenance quality, safety and compliance, operational standards, and ongoing training.
Pasquale Balzano, Fleet Engineer at Edwards Coaches, says: “Achieving platinum MPRS means a lot to all of us.
“It’s the top level in the scheme, and we’re proud to be the only PCV operator in Wales with it. It’s recognition for the team here in Llantrisant who work hard every day to get the details right.
“Safety is at the centre of everything we do, and this gives our customers extra confidence in our vehicles.”
Edwards Coaches, which marked its 100th anniversary last year, is one of the biggest family-owned operators in the UK, with more than 250 vehicles working on private and corporate hire, home-to-school and National Express contracts, tourism, and local bus routes.
