Women in Bus and Coach has continued its blue plaque scheme that recognises outstanding contributions to the sector by honouring the organisation’s founder Louise Cheeseman (pictured, second from right) at Hull Paragon interchange.
The plaque was unveiled on 24 July. It celebrates Ms Cheeseman’s career and her strong connection to Hull, where she was born. A senior leadership career saw her serve as Managing Director of Hull Trains before becoming Transport for London (TfL) Director of Buses.
Unveiling of the plaque was attended by representatives of Women in Bus and Coach, transport industry colleagues, local dignitaries, family members and invited guests who gathered to celebrate Ms Cheeseman’s achievements and lasting impact on the sector.
She founded Women in Bus and Coach in 2023 as a professional network to support, celebrate and advance women across the coach, bus and community transport sectors and served as its Chair until handing over to transport legal specialist Laura Hadzik in early 2026.
Speaking about the accolade, Ms Hadzik says: “Louise’s career has been defined by exceptional leadership, innovation, and a commitment to improving transport for passengers and communities.
“From her early career in Hull to leading major organisations on the national stage, she has consistently broken new ground and inspired others to follow in her footsteps.
“We were delighted to unveil this blue plaque at Hull Paragon interchange, a location that reflects both Louise’s personal connection to the city and her significant contribution to rail and bus transport. It is a fitting tribute to a woman who has achieved so much and continues to be an inspiration to people across our industry.”
TfL Commissioner Andy Lord has also acknowledged Ms Cheeseman’s work in the sector. “Louise played a key role during her time at TfL leading London’s bus operations and in particular by founding Women in Bus and Coach,” he says.
“This recognition of a blue plaque in her hometown is thoroughly deserved and reflects the difference she has made – not just through her leadership, but in how she has supported and inspired others across the sector, even after leaving her role at TfL.”
