From the first edition of the IRTE Skills Challenge in 2011, Allison Transmission has been a sponsor of the event that champions and rewards the work of coach and bus technicians and apprentices.
Ashley Brooks, Area Director UK and Ireland, regards the principles of the competition as a reflection of those held by Allison Transmission, by showing a consistent high level of quality and a tradition of best practice fundamentals.
“We like to see it as a mirror of what we do, and that’s why we’re a sponsor,” he says.
“James Allison, our founding member, said that whatever leaves this shop over my name must be of the finest work possible and that’s for every single product.
“Allison Transmission produces the highest quality transmissions in the world. So, when you compare it to what the Skills Challenge represents, it’s focused on having the highest standards.
“There’s significant changes in the developed markets, especially towards electrification and in the emerging markets a big shift towards automation.
“Allison Transmission is extremely positive going into the year ahead – there’s a lot going on globally in terms of new developments and it remains heavily focused on growing its domestic markets.
“New technology, the electrification phase and modern working practices require a dedication to continuous improvement and events such as the Skills Challenge are essential in helping technicians learn from others.
“Continuous improvement is more prevalent today than perhaps it’s ever been, for the technology we’re seeing today and the future.”
