National Express has won the British Safety Council (BSC) Sword of Honour for the fourth year in a row.
The Sword of Honour represents “the pinnacle of health and safety management”, and applicants must meet criteria which includes having not suffered any workplace fatalities, prohibition notices, or been the subject of any convictions of health and safety breaches.
In September National Express West Midlands (NXWM) was judged the safest public transport company of all those audited worldwide by BSC.
According to the audit, NatEx scored 99.17% in its recent Five Star Health and Safety Audit – placing it fifth of all logistics companies audited.
This year the award focused on the increasing importance of mental health. Companies had to provide full evidence to show how they identify and support mental health in the workplace.
Mark Heffernan, National Express Operations and Safety Director, says the award is confirmation that NatEx is one of the safest companies in the world.
He says: “This is a fantastic achievement. The award is a testament to all our employees’ relentless focus on health and safety and doing the right thing – keeping our people and customers safe.”
To apply for the award, organisations must have already achieved a five-star rating in a 13-day audit and demonstrate that they are worthy of the award with a written application.
