Leeds City Council (LCC) has confirmed that the city’s delayed Clean Air Zone (CAZ) will go live on 28 September.
From that date, coaches and buses that do not meet Euro VI standards – except for those that are eligible for an exemption – will be subject to a £50 daily charge to enter the CAZ.
Over 30 coaches and non-scheduled buses have already been upgraded to comply with Euro VI thanks to grant funding awarded by LCC. A further £3.1m has been “provisionally approved” for all sectors, LCC adds.
The Leeds CAZ was initially slated to be introduced on 1 January, but it was delayed due to problems with systems surrounding failures to produce a vehicle checker tool on time.
