Stagecoach has recognised an Aberdeen Bus Station Controller for going above and beyond in supporting his community during the coronavirus COVID-19 nationwide lockdown.

Track and Street Grampian, a car club which supports vulnerable people across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, was founded by Stagecoach Bus Services Controller Daryl Mitchell nine years ago.

At the start of the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak, Daryl and members of the car club pioneered a delivery service of free care packages to vulnerable people and were ‘overwhelmed’ by the demand and support from local businesses.

Donations came at such a rate the car club was forced to buy new additional premises to store supplies.

“When we started this at the end of March we were delivering more than 100 care packages each week, with deliveries seven days a week,” Daryl explains. “We will continue to offer this service for as long as there is demand.”

Managing Director for Stagecoach Bluebird Peter Knight says: “In these times of need we always see the community step up to support each other and Daryl and all the members of the car club are doing a fantastic job in caring for others.”

Daryl was the second employee from across the UK to be recognised as a ‘Stagecoach Hero’ for his selflessness.
