The Keighley Bus Company has named one of its buses after famous Second World War veteran Captain Tom Moore, who has raised over £27m for NHS Charities on his ‘100th birthday walk’.
The bus made its debut this week at Harrogate’s new NHS Nightingale Hospital. Captain Tom appeared as guest of honour for its opening ceremony via video link.
The bus celebrates the life of Tom, who was born and raised in Keighley. It will travel local bus routes in the Keighley area and provide transport links for key workers and those accessing essential services.
The bus carries the words ‘A big thank you to Captain Tom – A Keighley Legend’. The rear also features an illustration of Captain Tom completing his fundraising walk, by Yorkshire Post cartoonist Graeme Bandeira.
The Keighley Bus Company CEO Alex Hornby says: “We are truly amazed by Captain Tom’s remarkable fundraising efforts for NHS charities, and as he is a proud Yorkshireman raised in Keighley, we feel it’s entirely appropriate for us to express our thanks to him by naming our bus in his hometown.”
