Dublin-based Harris Group has won a contract to supply Higer Steed battery-electric buses to Glenveagh National Park in Donegal on behalf of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
Two buses will be delivered with an option for a third. They will be the first electric buses to be supplied to the public sector in Ireland.
The contract award was made in March and follows the demonstration of a test Higer Steed in the park during February. It was signed at a ‘socially distant’ meeting on 5 May.
The Steed can be fully charged in less than two hours and its battery performance will be optimised for the terrain of Glenveagh.
Says Harris Group CEO Denise Harris: “Our commitment to new thinking drives us towards innovative solutions. We are delighted to work with the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht along with the National Parks and Wildlife Service in implementing future-focused transport solutions.”
Adds Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring TD: “I am delighted that my department was able to provide funding for this initiative. Glenveagh National Park is a national treasure and I cannot think of a more appropriate place for us to invest in zero-emission transport solutions.”
