The Transport Benevolent Fund (TBF) CIO has set up two new charitable funds for bus and rail in response to the suffering caused by coronavirus COVID-19 among public transport workers.
In June, a charity run in aid of London bus workers, Run for a Bus, raised over £10,000. Participants ran through London along the routes of several designated bus services. The money raised has been presented to TBF and will be ring-fenced to support London bus workers and their dependents, who are not TBF members, and who find themselves ‘in need, hardship and distress’ due to coronavirus COVID-19.
London bus workers affected by the coronavirus COVID-19 or those who are dependants of a deceased London bus worker who would like to apply for assistance should get in touch with TBF by emailing help@tbf.org.uk quoting ‘RunForABus’.
A rail sector memorial has been set up in the name of Belly Mujinga, the station staff employee who sadly lost her life to the virus. Belly, a TBF member, was a frontline worker who faced threats and abuse while doing her job. Monies donated to TBF from the Rail Staff Awards annual charity raffle will be available to help rail staff workers who are not TBF members, affected by coronavirus COVID-19.
