Go North East has relaunched its Quaylink Q3 service in Newcastle as QuayCity. The improved buses meet compliance for the Newcastle Clean Air Zone due to be introduced in 2021.

The fleet of nine long-wheelbase Optare Versas has been upgraded to feature improved seating, USB charging, free wi-fi, next-stop audio-visual announcements and the latest Euro VI emission standards, achieved through fitment of an Eminox Euro VI Selective Catalytic Reduction Technology (SCRT) system in partnership with North Tyneside and Gateshead Council.

Martijn Gilbert, Managing Director of Go North East, says: “Meeting the latest Euro VI low emission bus standards, and with buses emitting far lower emissions per passenger journey and taking up considerably less road space than cars, these buses can play an important role in reducing congestion and improving air quality.

“Good quality local transport is more important than ever now and we’re very serious about doing all we can to get people onto public transport and play our part.”

The service provides a link between Newcastle city centre and Quayside and includes Great Park, Gosforth and Wallsend seven days a week.
