routeone Awards partner PPG has outlined progress on its sustainability goals in its 2020 Sustainability Report.

PPG developed a series of sustainability goals in 2012 and periodically revises them.

Those goals include: A commitment to 40% of sales from products and processes that have improved sustainability over products being replaced by 2025; a 25% reduction in waste disposal intensity by 2025 from a 2017 baseline; a reduction in energy consumption by 15% by 2025 from a 2017 baseline; a reduction greenhouse gas emissions by 15% by 2025 from a 2017 baseline; zero injuries, and active wellness programs.

So far, PPG has achieved 35% of sales from sustainably advantaged products and processes, a 42% reduction in waste and a 34% reduction in waste disposal intensity from the 2017 baseline, and a 24% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the 2017 baseline.

In addition, PPG has invested $7.3m of a target of $10m into its own Colorful Communities initiative, which aims to protect neighbourhoods where it operates.
