Go North East will introduce 24/7 departures on three routes from Saturday 29 May. It says the move will support the region’s night-time economy and improve accessibility to major employment centres. The latter consideration includes the further addition of an overnight journey to a fourth route and later departures on another.
The 24/7 provision from Go North East will provide round-the-clock services between Newcastle and Gateshead, Chester-le-Street and Durham on the Angel 21; between Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland on the Cityrider 56; and between Sunderland, Seaham and Parkside on the Drifter 60.
The improvements closely follow Go North East’s introduction of a £1 evening fare, which can be used for any single trip on any of its buses between 1900-0300hrs. That promotion – which is available until further notice – was introduced on 15 May.
Says Commercial Director Stephen King: “Just over a week ago we introduced our new £1 evening single fare offer to help to give the night-time economy a boost, and we are delighted to be introducing these enhancements to help to play our part in the region’s economy.”
Transdev Blazefield quickly followed GNE’s lead on reduced evening fares and introduced a £1 offer of its own across all its services after 1900hrs. Transdev is also giving a free day ticket when its Transdev Go app is downloaded and it has made other discounts available as part of the #backtobus campaign.
