Mellor has announced further details of its new battery-electric single-deck bus product. The Rochdale manufacturer says that it will consist of an “extensive range” of models at multiple lengths, widths, ranges and GVWs and that they will enter the UK and European markets in 2022.
Additional information on the multi-variant range will be released next month, but Mellor bullishly describes the line-up as being “anticipated to be the widest range of battery-electric buses from any manufacturer in Europe” and describes it as “the most significant new bus model introduction in the UK for many years.”
Bus Division Managing Director Mark Clissett adds that the new line-up will represent “a step change” in the Rochdale manufacturer’s product range. It sits alongside other work to reposition the business in 2022, including plans to open a new production facility in Scarborough. That is intended to see it become “a major player” in the UK and Europe.
Adds Mr Clissett: “We are very excited indeed about our new electric bus range, a bold move that we believe will shake up the UK bus market a deliver a fresh new business proposition for operators.” The line-up will “provide a genuine alternative for customers, with the widest range of models… on the market,” he continues.
Mellor has also underlined how the close relationship with fellow Woodall Nicholson subsidiary Promech Technologies – which is led by former Mellor chief John Randerson – is key to the OEM’s future direction. The two businesses will share the new Scarborough facility.
The new and as yet unnamed model will sit alongside Mellor’s existing products, which include battery-electric examples.
