Further Scania ADL Enviro400CBG buses for Nottingham City Transport

Nottingham City Transport (NCT) has taken delivery of the first of 23 further Scania ADL Enviro400CBG biogas-fuelled double-deckers.

When the £7m order is completed by late August, NCT will have a fleet of 143 of the type. The existing 120 Enviro400CBGs in use already make up the world’s largest biogas double-decker fleet. They have enabled the operator to halve its diesel consumption to four million litres per year.

Those buses have covered over 15 million miles since the first entered service in Nottingham in July 2017. They have removed over 26,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions and 180 tonnes of NOx over the same period. The five years since their introduction was recently celebrated by NCT, which notes that the 23 additional buses will further that work.

The new vehicles represent a continuation of Scania and Alexander Dennis’s collaborative efforts to deliver biogas buses. Says Scania UK Sales Director for Bus, Coach and Power Solutions Mark Oliver (pictured, left): “We are delighted to have provided the chassis and powertrains underpinning the world’s largest fleet of biogas double-deck buses.

“This project is a culmination of seven years’ hard work between NCT, ADL and Scania to get these buses on the road and the right infrastructure in place. At Scania, we are committed to helping businesses decarbonise their operations, which is why we are proud to see this project come to fruition.”

Alexander Dennis Sales Account Manager for the Midlands and Wales Lee Salt (pictured, right) has also welcomed the delivery of the latest Enviro400CBG fleet. “We look forward to continuing to work with NCT in the future,” adds Mr Salt.
