FlixBus enters Scottish internal coach market

FlixBus UK has entered the internal Scottish scheduled coach market with the launch of services between Glasgow and Aberdeen via Stirling and Perth from 8 August. Its existing partner operator in Scotland, McGill’s Buses, is operating the route with up to four journeys in each direction per day.

To mark FlixBus’s entry into the Scottish internal sector, it and McGill’s have unveiled a Mercedes-Benz Tourismo tri-axle decorated with the Saltire and images of landmarks in Scotland such as Ben Nevis and Glenfinnan Viaduct. That coach has previously been utilised by McGill’s on its existing Anglo-Scottish FlixBus services.

The launch will see tickets offered from 99p duirng August as FlixBus makes its entry into what is already a competitive coach market in Scotland. The FlixBus website offers through itineraries to and from London utilising the new service with a connection in Glasgow.

FlixBus UK Managing Director Andreas Schörling says that the business believes its services “will be a natural fit with the Scottish market,” adding that launch there forms “a cornerstone” of established aspirations to become the UK’s largest scheduled coach brand by 2025. He believes that McGill’s is “the obvious choice of partner” for the service to Aberdeen.

McGill’s Buses CEO Ralph Roberts continues: “Our established partnership with FlixBus has gone from strength to strength, and we are delighted to be working together with the global brand to deliver this ambitious project and offer high quality transport connections to the people of Scotland.”

Introduction of the service to Aberdeen means that FlixBus now serves over 40 destinations in the UK, it says.
