FlixBus will extend its reach to a 43rd country on 6 February when it launches a network in India. That provision captures an initial 46 cities, using Delhi as a central hub.

To date, five coach operators in Delhi have formed partnerships with FlixBus to deliver services on its behalf. The travel technology business says that it expects further growth in India later and notes that the country represents the world’s second-largest intercity coach market, with an estimated value of €30 billion per annum.

No FlixBus coach will be over three years old in India and the business says it will place a strong focus on road safety in the delivery of its services there. That will see the deployment of a 24/7 traffic control and response team, driver training, and numerous on-vehicle safety features.

FlixBus Co-Founder and Chief Executive André Schwämmlein adds that entry into India is “a massive step” for the company.

He continues: “We are continuing our profitable growth path and are adding a 43rd country to our portfolio by rolling out our proven business model that relies on partnerships with local operators.

“I am confident that Flix will provide Indians with a new travel standard, enabled by technology, that is convenient and reliable and puts road safety at the heart of its offering. As in every market we enter, we are aiming for market leadership.”

Pictures show a Volvo 9600 coach in FlixBus livery ahead of the launch, a model built by the manufacturer specifically for the Indian market. FlixBus services in the country will utilise coaches fitted with sleeper and “semi-sleeper” seats, the company has confirmed.
