The Alexander Dennis Enviro100EV battery-electric small bus demonstrator has undergone road trials on Guernsey with operator CT Plus.

Its visit is part of work by CT Plus and the States of Guernsey to find what Alexander Dennis describes as “a suitable electric bus for the Channel Island’s narrow and winding roads.” It adds that the Enviro100EV suits such a need via its 2.35m width and 8.5m length.

Data on energy consumption, charging requirements and manoeuvrability will now be analysed by the operator and manufacturer. The Enviro100EV did not carry passengers during its visit to Guernsey and Alexander Dennis says that stage of its demonstration programme will begin over the coming months once homologation and certification are complete.

CT Plus Director Kevin Hart has welcomed the trial of the Enviro100EV on Guernsey. “This shows the continued commitment that manufacturers have to finding the right solution for the island,” he notes.

“The bus has an impressive capacity for its small size, as some three more can be accommodated on the Enviroo100EV than can be taken on the current buses used in Guernsey.”

Alexander Dennis National Account Manager Shaun Millar adds that the manufacturer has been pleased to take the Enviro100EV to Guernsey. “We expect that our ‘big small bus’ will perform well in Guernsey, as its size and manoeuvrability make it ideal for the island’s roads while offering passengers the comfort of a larger vehicle,” he says.

“This is one of the first on-road trials of the Enviro100EV, and we are really looking forward to analysing the results together with CT Plus.”
