Volvo coach, bus and truck dealership group Thomas Hardie Commercials in North West England and North Wales has invested in a Josam Cam-aligner, which will allow faster and more accurate wheel alignment on those vehicles.

The equipment has been installed into one of Thomas Hardie’s service vans, which will allow the service to be delivered either at the dealer’s workshops or at operators’ premises.

Automotive Equipment Solutions (AES) UK has supplied the Cam-aligner, which is the only approved Volvo Truck and Bus wheel aligner on the UK market.

Wireless technology is used to transmit data between measuring units and the computer, with the accompanying software guiding the user through the measuring process. Reports are produced before and after the alignment exercise, with centreline technology helping to align all axles to the vehicle chassis.

AES adds that the system works seamlessly with Thomas Hardie’s other tools, including that for the adjustment of electronic steered axles. The supplier has delivered in-depth training to 11 master technicians and Thomas Hardie Group Truck and Bus Manager Chris Whalley.

Mr Whalley says that the dealership has already seen a return on investment from the Cam-aligner, with the ability to visit an operator’s premises a particular benefit. He adds that accuracy of the aligning equipment is saving money for customers.

“Our data shows that identifying and replacing worn steering components can add up to 10% extra MPG to a vehicle, which is a huge difference,” continues Mr Whalley.
