National Express West Midlands (NXWM) has been awarded a Five Star Occupational Health and Safety rating from the British Safety Council (BSC) for the eight consecutive year.

It follows an audit by the BSC of all safety procedures, including observing operations at various sites, interviewing employees, and evaluating safety policies, processes and procedures.

The bus operator has held the rating since 2016. The audit provides a quantified outcome in 57 elements of safety.

NXWM achieved a score of 96.4% – as against the 92% needed for a five-star grading.

A five-star grading is awarded only when a company scores 92% or above against

Mark Heffernan, UK Chief Operating and Safety Officer for National Express says:  “Our organisation’s commitment and focus on safety is relentless, so we are incredibly proud to have once again been recognised by the British Safety Council with another five-star grading – an achievement we’ve maintained in each and every audit since 2016.

“It is a credit to all of our colleagues, who are consistently taking responsible action, that we have once again achieved the very highest standard, reflecting all the hard work and dedication from teams right across our business.”

Mike Robinson, CEO of the British Safety Council, adds: “The award of a five-star grading following our occupational best practice health and safety audit is an outstanding achievement.

“It is reflective of a proactive organisation which is committed to continual improvement in its health and safety arrangements and managing risks to workers’ health, safety and wellbeing.

“National Express West Midlands should be very proud of this achievement.”
