Reading Buses has confirmed it will roll out CitySwift’s performance-optimisation platform to its whole network after a successful trial.

CitySwift says the operator has seen improvements of 9.1% and 14.2% in punctuality on two of the trial corridors since it began using the software in 2023.

The supplier adds that the platform, which supports improved punctuality and passenger experience and offers insights into timetable optimisation, has helped the municipal to strong year-on-year performance.

Gemma Redson, Commercial Manager at Reading Buses, says: “We are thrilled to extend our relationship with CitySwift, and to be leading the way in the UK in the application of data and insights, which are essential to providing our customers with an efficient and cost-effective bus service.

“Our experienced schedulers and network planners are able respond decisively through using CitySwift’s analytics and optimisation tools, increasing their efficiency and decreasing late running for customers who depend on our bus services.”

CitySwift says it optimises more than 1 billion passenger trips yearly using intelligent data processing.

The announcement of the contract with Reading Buses follows partnership deals with Transport for Greater Manchester, National Express, Transport North East, Transdev Blazefield, Trentbarton and the Go-Ahead Group earlier this year.

Brian O’Rourke, CEO and Co-founder of CitySwift, says: “Following last year’s strong performance, we are delighted to extend our partnership with Reading Buses, supporting the operator’s commitment to improving bus services and furthering our goal of making public transport the mode of choice for all.”
