Ilkley is another location to gain Coach Friendly status from the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT). The presentation took place on Tuesday 1 April and was made by CPT Yorkshire Chair and Tetley’s Coaches Director Ian Tetley (pictured, front right).

Ilkley Business Improvement District (BID) Manager Sarah Brookfield-Almond (pictured, front left) and Bradford Council Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw (pictured, left) accepted the certificate on behalf of the town.

Ilkley BID says it has played “a pivotal role in achieving this status,” working collaboratively with local businesses and stakeholders to ensure that the town meets the necessary standards.

CPT awards Coach Friendly status to places and attractions that satisfy multiple criteria, including provision of suitable parking, excellent passenger facilities, and clear and helpful information for drivers.

“Ilkley’s success in attaining this status highlights the town’s proactive approach to promoting sustainable tourism and enhancing the visitor experience,” the BID says.

Ms Brookfield-Almond adds that receipt of the accreditation leaves Ilkley looking forward to welcoming more coaches and coach passengers. “This award demonstrates the value we place on tourism and the benefits it brings to the town, its businesses, residents and visitors.”

All coach drivers arriving in Ilkley will be given a £10 Ilkley Gift Card to spend in over 80 participating business. Planning information for visiting coach groups and drivers can be found on a dedicated page on the Discover Ilkley website.

Also at the presentation ceremony was CPT Regional Manager for the North of England Andrew McGuinness (pictured, centre).

“We are delighted to present Ilkley with Coach Friendly status,” he says. “With a great range of shops, restaurants, riverside walks and museums, the town is well suited to welcoming coach passengers and drivers.

“Ilkley’s charm and hospitality make it a natural choice for group travel, and its inclusion as part of Bradford – the UK City of Culture 2025 – adds even more appeal for visitors exploring the region’s cultural and heritage attractions.

“We are confident that this recognition will help to drive sustainable tourism and bring long-term benefits to the local economy.”
