Wayne Watling from the Metropolitan Police was speaking in The Theatre on the second day of CBUK, highlighting awareness and providing reassurance of the threat terrorism poses to the industry.

Mr Watling said that anyone present in The Theatre was highly unlikely to encounter a terrorist attack, however, the threat is still there and the importance of staying alert and aware is high.

“It’s important to have eyes and ears on the ground,” said Mr Watling, as he revealed 550 cases are being handled at any one time.

13 plots have been foiled since the murder of Lee Rigby in 2013, and Mr Watling explained the engagement activities the government have in place to help raise awareness of the threat faced – such as ‘exhibition/show engagement’ as displayed at CBUK.

Mr Watling recommended that businesses should attend a free Project Griffin event that can enable people to recognise and report suspicious activity, and help with combating the risks. More details on the events available at goo.gl/Yr1o4W
