Making its UK debut at Coach & Bus UK was Irizar’s electric bus, called the ie.
The 10.85m bus was taking visitors for a ride around the NEC’s roads, to demonstrated its quiet and smooth ride, thanks to a single electric traction motor, while its interior uses the latest relaxation of rules for Transport for London (TfL), following a review.
Thanks to separate Hispacold electric heating systems for the driver and passengers, with pre-heating during battery charging, it is totally zero-emissions. After the show it is due to go on demonstration with a London operator, before undertaking a UK tour.
The bus has a total capacity of 60 (including 28 seated and one wheelchair user) and uses a bolted aluminium structure.
The recyclable Sodium Nickel batteries have a capacity of 329 kW/h, and charging time is around seven hours.
