Thames starts River Rapids route

Thames Travel has started a new route from Oxford to Henley-on-Thames, via Wallingford.

The ‘River Rapids’ X38 reinstates a Oxford-Henley direct service for the first time in many years, and increased frequencies between Oxford and Wallingford from every 30 minutes to every 20 minutes.

The company used Hants & Dorset Trim in Eastleigh to refurbish nine buses in a distinctive new livery.

They now have free 4G wi-fi, high backed seating, luggage racks and contactless payment systems.

The changes are designed to promote using buses to travel to some of the county’s great leisure destinations, in addition to improving links for commuters.

Thames Travel MD Phil Southall says: “Part of our wider strategy for growth is to improve services to destination centres and make it easier for our customers to enjoy days or evenings out.

“This is the first new service we have added as part of this strategy and we believe it is an excellent addition to our network.”

Day tickets for the new route start at £6, and a £15 family ticket is available for unlimited day use for two adults and up to three children to travel together along the full length of the route, with under 5s travelling for free.
