Long-time Oxford Bus Company (OBC) driver Arif Khan has raised £600 for Cancer Research UK by running the London Marathon.
It marks the second time the 40-year-old driver has completed the race, achieving a personal best of two hours and 47 minutes, all while fasting during Ramadan and caring for a 10-year-old son.
He is one of two staff members recently sponsored by the operator to run for charity. The company supported him with a smart watch and nutrition plan, full Nike kit with OBC branding, and a new pair of running shoes.
“Arif achieved an amazing finish time and we’re all proud of his campaign for such a great charity,” says Luke Marion, Oxford Bus Company Managing Director. “The London Marathon requires strength, dedication and an impeccable work ethic, three things Arif always embodies at work. We supported him through his training and to see him wearing his Oxford Bus Company kit on the big day was a moment of pride for us all.”
Adds Arif: “Oxford Bus Company have played a pivotal role in my success and I will always be grateful for its support. Luke and the team have been incredibly helpful throughout my training, from providing me with my running gear, to spreading awareness throughout the company.”
More than 53,000 people from 158 nations completed the Sunday marathon, raising some £67m for charitable causes. Kenyan Alexander Munyao secured the win this year with a time of two hours and four minutes, while fellow Kenyan and professional runner Peres Jepchirchir set a women’s only world-record time of two hours and 16 minutes.
Donations can still be made to Arif’s Gofundme page.
