Megabus coaches are to operate over 48,000 miles on Christmas Day and Boxing Day after the Stagecoach subsidiary said it will ramp up services over that period compared to 2020.
9,000 of those miles will be run on Christmas Day, double the number operated on 25 December 2020. Services will include a 30-minute frequency between London Victoria and Heathrow Airport on both days.
Megabus Managing Director Mark Venables says that over 13,000 seats are available on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Sales for the festive period are proceeding well, he adds. Between 17 December and 3 January 2022, the blue coaches will cover more than 500,000 miles.
Meanwhile, Scottish Citylink, in which Stagecoach is a partner alongside ComfortDelGro, will also operate daily throughout the festive period.
On Christmas Day it will run an hourly service between Edinburgh and Glasgow, while on New Year’s Day “limited services” will operate to a number of towns and cities across Scotland.
In addition, a network radiating from Edinburgh will be in place following Hogmanay celebrations there
In a sign of the growing importance of scheduled coach travel on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, FlixBus recently confirmed that its operator partners will run domestic services across the festive period with no break.
