Heavy vehicle operators across the UK are under real pressure. Rules keep tightening, uptime matters more than ever, and passenger safety cannot slip. Against this backdrop, Totalkare’s recent equipment upgrade for Green Metro Coaches offers a useful case study in what a modern workshop can look like.
Green Metro Coaches runs close to 300 vehicles, ranging from small saloons to 53-seater coaches. To keep this fleet moving, the company has fitted out its workshop with a full range of Totalkare equipment: G9DC mobile column lifts, high capacity axle stands, a mobile brake tester, a tyre changer, a headlamp tester, a diesel smoke meter, and an energy efficient compressor.
James Phare, Area Sales Manager at Totalkare, explains the thinking behind the package. Operators want equipment that meets compliance standards today while keeping vehicles on the road longer. The wireless G9DC mobile column lifts can handle 8,000kg per column, the headlamp tester carries DVSA approval, and the diesel smoke meter meets Euro 6 standards. Every item was chosen to make workshops safer and faster.
The G9DC system is a good example of why this matters for large fleets. It needs no installation or groundwork, can scale up to 48 columns, and lets technicians work underneath vehicles of all sizes quickly. Adjustable wheel forks and galvanised construction add durability, while wireless controls make daily use simpler.
Safety runs through the rest of the setup too. Axle stands rated to 7,500kg support vehicles of varying heights, and the mobile brake tester handles wheelbases up to 4,000mm. It comes with automatic axle weighing, diagnostic printouts, optional tachograph calibration, and a handheld tablet, giving technicians accurate readings across the whole fleet.
The remaining equipment rounds out a workshop built for volume. The tyre changer mounts and dismounts tyres in around 30 seconds. The headlamp tester uses laser alignment. The diesel smoke meter works down to minus 15 degrees. The compressor runs quietly on a plug and play setup, using less power along the way.
For Mushtaq Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Green Metro Coaches, the results speak for themselves. Vehicle readiness is central to the business, since any delay affects customers directly. Since the upgrade, turnaround times in the workshop have improved and engineers trust the accuracy of their safety checks more. The brake tester and column lifts alone are saving hours every week.
This upgrade reflects a wider shift in the heavy vehicle sector. Operators increasingly want joined-up workshop solutions that support both compliance and efficiency, rather than piecemeal fixes. For Green Metro Coaches, the investment strengthens its ability to deliver reliable transport nationwide while keeping costs and safety standards under control.
As Totalkare continues working with fleets across transport, construction, logistics, municipal, and public sector operations, the message is consistent: well chosen workshop equipment is becoming one of the smartest investments an operator can make.
