Training is available for everything from compliance to workshop safety. Our suppliers are the market leaders when it comes to upskilling your staff
Training staff in a coach and bus setting encompasses everything from periodic training for Driver CPC, to workshop safety, and how to correctly use the technology that keeps an operation running efficiently and compliantly.
CheckedSafe offers organisations a complete solution, enabling clients to manage and protect their workforce and comply with regulatory requirements while reducing cost. Co-founder Gary Hawthorne says operators that use the system properly have a legally defensible product, providing a full fleet management system at minimum cost.“
As well as our fleet management toolkit we also can provide training modules, staff assessments and inductions – in fact, anything that is paper driven, we can create a digital option. This can be signed off remotely for those staff not able to beat the main office. By tracking and timing of our templates it’s easy to see the compliance in what we do.“
In addition, drivers can be assessed for anything, again via a template on the app – our system is bespoke, so you can run your fleet and staff paperless, have all training documents stored on our system and also schedule reminders for staff training. Pushing out of documents is a great feature, so staff have everything to hand via the app – you can even confirm that they have read and understood.”
For clients that don’t always see drivers daily, the system gives the ability to communicate and monitor drivers – but also ensures they are up to speed with training needs.
Introducing EOS
EOS Training is a market leader in the supply of training material for both freight and passenger CPC to tutors and students across the country.
Its study material is created in an easy-to-read style, with comprehensive information, revision summaries, stage tests and sample examinations. To ensure that the material is always up to date with the latest legislation, all its notes are updated four times each year.
EOS offers an extensive range of products including student notes (also available in a format appropriate for those with dyslexia), e-learning subscription service, examination preparation and refresher booklets, home study packs, driver handbooks, training packs and PowerPoint presentations. It has also recently released a new “convenient and sustainable” product – the EOS TM Guide app.
“Our TM Guide app was one of 24 entrants for the Innovation Challenge at this year’s Euro Bus Expo event, which then went on to win the silver award,” says spokesperson Jordyn Hyre. “It is the ideal product for existing and newly qualified Transport Managers, supervisors, and those operating without the need for a Transport Manager, offering total compliance on the go.
“Our app works as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to paper-based solutions used throughout the industry, which can often be out of date at the time of print, and cannot be amended.”
The TM Guide app includes 30 relevant modules relating to either freight or passenger, a comprehensive search facility function, live industry updates, and bulletins. Retention knowledge checks can also be found at the end of each module, ensuring one’s knowledge of current legislation is up to date. “The EOS TM Guide app aids the continuing professional development towards Transport Manager CPC success,” adds Jordyn.
Well-known throughout the industry, Beverley Bell Consulting doesn’t just offer off-the-shelf training – it gives learners “something different” – the entire Beverley Bell team are experts in their field, sharing real-life experiences and examples from their extensive professional lives with learners.
“Our training is unique as two of our trainers are former Traffic Commissioners who each bring their own insight to the courses they deliver,” says Beverley. “All our trainers work hard to ensurethat every course delegate contributes to the training sessions and so gains real value from them.
“The sessions are interactive with learners taking part in roleplays and case scenarios, and we don’t overload you with material and onscreen presentations.
”A wide range of training courses are on offer, from regular courses of full Transport Manager CPC training, TM CPC refreshers and O-Licence awareness training courses, to bespoke offerings such as tailored board-level training on O-Licence responsibilities, specialised modules on drivers’ hours for fleet planners, and targeted professional development for Transport Managers.
“We offer mentoring and career development guidance, and we love to talent spot to identify the managers and leaders of the future,” adds Beverley. “Our bespoke company-specific training is customised for the work the business does, so that delegates can put their learnings to practical use as soon as they go back to work. Put simply, we feel we are different from the rest, and are proud of it.”
Working in partnership
Workshop training is one of the most essential components in keeping staff and vehicles safe from harm, and Totalkare provides a variety of training materials to ensure safe operation of its equipment.
The main training that Totalkare offers in relation to its lifting equipment is an online training portal. That covers both Totalkare-branded column lifts and its complementary workshop equipment.
The training aims to give users a comprehensive understanding of the correct way to operate the equipment. “People should always respect the fact that they are lifting several tonnes into the air, and while safety measures are built into the lifts themselves, not understanding the correct way of operating them can still lead to things going wrong,” says Marketing Manager Steve Braund.
As well as working with over 40 training provision partners, TruTac trains on its existing products and how they work with understanding and implementing compliance rulesets. It has a training team that assists managers and operators in understanding their compliance obligations and the different modules of TruTac’s software to make sure they adhere to those obligations. It also provides consultancy on specific compliance needs or training requirements.
“We help customers set up the system to make sure it works for their operation, because there’s a lot of configurability within the system,” says Managing Director Jemma James. “On the training side we do use TruDocuments, which enables users to send out training material and information through to drivers that they can evidence has been signed off remotely, and then send back for a full audit trail. More customers are choosing this.”
Next year, TruTac is expected to release TruKnowledge, a driver knowledge portal, which will provide users the ability to put their own training material and training courses in it, or to purchase a pre-defined package with different courses. “People will be able to either input their own training courses or their own provider, or they can purchase different courses. We’re looking at working with a whole host of different providers in getting that content together,” adds Jemma.
