On Friday 29 September, staff at wheelchair accessible vehicle converter GM Coachwork had chance to show off their baking talents – and lighten their wallets – by supporting the Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning.
Known as the world’s biggest coffee morning, the event is the largest fundraiser on Macmillan’s calendar for people facing cancer.
Macmillan asks people from all over the UK to host their own coffee mornings and donations are made on the day. In 2016, Macmillan raised £29.5m, and this year it set out to better that.
The first Macmillan coffee morning took place in 1990. It was a small affair with a simple idea: Guests would gather over a drink and donate the cost of their coffee to Macmillan in the process.
It was repeated the following year on a national basis and since then the event has raised over £165m for Macmillan cancer care. At GM Coachwork’s coffee morning, besides drinking coffee, staff also baked cakes to help to get into the spirit.
