Abellio London Bus was named winner of the “Fleet Electrification Strategy of the Year Award, over 100 vehicles” at the Electric Vehicle Innovation and Excellence Awards (EVIEs) last week.
The UK Transport Group-owned operator beat off competition from fellow nominees Westminster City Council and Dundee City Council.
Abellio, whose fleet was 15% electric, numbering 157 vehicles, by July 2023, was particularly recognised by the EVIEs for its project to mobilise 30 Wrightbus Electroliners on route 111 and the electrification of the Twickenham depot.
The latter was supported by partners UK Power Networks and Enel X, while the order was completed without external funding or grant.
The operator plans to run 30% of its fleet on electric in 2024, boosted by a further order of 80 vehicles from Wrightbus, and to be the first to electrify all its London depots.
Jon Eardley, Managing Director of Abellio London – part of the Transport UK Group, says: “Here at Abellio London and across the entire Transport UK Group, we’re dedicated to shaping the future of public transport, and winning this award is a testament to that.
“It is the culmination of five years of hard work from our highly skilled team and technical partners in the relentless pursuit of excellence in energising our sites and decarbonising our fleet.
“We’re building a brighter, better future and doing our part to make Transport for London a strong, green heartbeat for London.”
