The Aberdeen and District Transport Preservation Trust via its public face of The Bus Collection at Alford will hold its annual open day on Sunday 4 August in the grounds of the Grampian Transport Museum in Alford, Aberdeenshire.
It follows a successful such event in 2023. Over 1,000 visitors were received, up from 800 in 2022. “We have set ourselves a big challenge to repeat this success again in 2024, so please come and join in the fun,” says Trustee and former First Aberdeen Managing Director George Mair.
The event will be held between 1100-1600hrs. Visitors will be able to view what the Trust says is the largest and best presented collection of vintage coaches and buses north of Central Scotland. They will also be able to see one of the few, if not the last, remaining Aberdeen tramcars, which the Trust plans to rebuild to full working order.
Entrance to the open day will be free and the event will also include sales stalls and much else. As many as possible of the Trust’s own fleet will be able to view alongside examples belonging to the FirstGroup Heritage Trust, along with a hoped-for selection of visiting vehicles.
The Grampian Transport Museum will also be open on the same day, with that venue offering discounted entry. Free rides both inside the grounds of the museum and around Alford village will be available.
Among the vehicles that could be available to view are:
- An Albion bus from the 1930s
- A Leyland PD2 double-decker from Edinburgh
- A Strathtay Leyland Leopard
- Leyland Atlantean, Leopard, National and Olympian models
- A Daimler CVG6 on display and in use
- A Mercedes-Benz O405G articulated bus with Alexander bodywork new to Grampian Regional Transport in 1992
- Other visiting vehicles that are to be confirmed.
The Grampian Transport Museum is located at Montgarrie Road, Alford, AB33 8AE.
