In a £900,000 investment Stagecoach Yorkshire has put six new ADL Enviro200 MMC single-deckers on its 10-minute frequency Barnsley-Staincross route 1.
They have start/stop engines, free Wifi, USB ports, contactless payments and e-leather seats.
Stagecoach Yorkshire MD Matt Davies says: “This is part of our ongoing commitment to the Barnsley Bus Partnership to improve services and help reduce the increasing congestion problems we see.
Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “We are delighted to see new investment. The new fleet of buses will reaffirm our green credentials and show commitment to promoting sustainable travel within the Barnsley Bus Partnership.”
Stagecoach Yorkshire operates an local services in South and West Yorkshire including Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Pontefract, Leeds and Wakefield.
Stagecoach also operates in North East Derbyshire, including Chesterfield.
Stagecoach Yorkshire employs 1,189 staff and operates 403 buses, including 36 hybrid electric double-deckers, which carry 44.6 million passengers 20.2 million miles annually.
Services operated by Stagecoach Yorkshire between May 2016 and April 2017 had a 99.4% reliability rate and 93.1% punctuality rate.
