Traffic Commissioner Nick Denton has sent a warning to operators not to put off compliance, adding that “the public have a right to expect safe and lawful operation of vehicles.”
His comments came when he revoked a Birmoingham recycling firm’s O-Licence and banned its directors. He criticised them for “being too busy with other issues to worry about compliance.”
At the Public Inquiry (PI), the TC was given promises about future compliance but said they were “far too little” and “far too late.”
In a warning to other operators, the TC said: “The directors said on several occasions during the PI that other matters took priority.
“Nothing should take priority over the safe and lawful operation of vehicles.”
He added that one of the directors had a history of not addressing compliance issues, including attending a new operator seminar but failing to apply any of its lessons.
He also found that one director had falsified driver defect reports the day before the PI.
