Artificial intelligence and machine learning allow prediction of journey times and demand
Bus scheduling company CitySwift – formerly CitySwifter – has launched a new technology platform at the same time as former Stagecoach UK Bus Managing Director Robert Montgomery joins its board as a non-executive Director.
The platform uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict journey times and demand. It is cloud native and made up of two products:
SwiftInsight delivers user-friendly business intelligence dashboards that allow operators to instantly visualise vast amounts of data from their networks. That permits them to act on trends, predict future growth using ‘big data’ and track KPIs, including load factors.
SwiftSchedule enables schedulers to automatically create optimised timetables that consider traffic, events and other external factors, and to understand the impact of disruption and changes to schedules while modelling future scenarios.
The business recently concluded a successful funding round led by Ryanair co-founder Declan Ryan’s Irelandia Investments.
Says CEO Brian O’Rourke: “Having already optimised urban bus routes in eight of the UK’s largest cities, this funding gives us an opportunity to help public transport companies and authorities around the world to make the most of their data, deliver on-time performance and increase passenger satisfaction.”
Adds Mr Montgomery: “The data insights created by CitySwift can deliver lower costs and happier passengers. Enhanced reliability and greater satisfaction at less cost through a better understanding of data opens up a new future for urban buses.”
